Patch Notes

Screw Drivers has received several major updates since its Early Access launch. This page summarizes every significant patch with the most important features and fixes. For full patch notes, check the Steam community news feed.

v1.0 full release (Aug 20, 2026)

The biggest update yet — Screw Drivers exited Early Access. Simon’s launch notes list a track editor, Workshop browsers, blueprints, full menu gamepad support, 25 in-game languages, a menu tutorial, and minimap previews of checkpoint layouts. The client moved to Unity 6. Early Access owners keep the game; the store list price is 7,99€. See How to Get for the paid switch.

New features

  • Track editor — starting grids, checkpoints, cones, flags, ramps, tyre stacks, wooden barricades, arrow and turn signs. Test drive in the editor, take a thumbnail, upload to Workshop.
  • Workshop browsers — vehicles returned (without the old memory leak) plus a new browser for custom tracks.
  • Blueprints — save gearboxes, engines, and other assemblies and insert them into another car. See Blueprints.
  • Controller — full gamepad navigation through car select, garage, tech tree, settings, and tutorials. Hold left trigger in the parts menu to jump to the shop.
  • 25 languages in the client with a settings selector and CJK fonts. This wiki still covers seven.
  • Menu tutorial after the driving tutorial (career, garage, tech tree, blacklist).
  • Minimap previews on challenges before you start.

Performance and multiplayer

Car selection with hundreds of saves, startup, and car analysis are faster (analysis help credited to ATLAS). Multiplayer load and spawn improved. A repeating two-second Steam Deck hitch is fixed. Dedicated servers now reject map-vote and password changes from anyone but the real host, with validation and rate limits. All islands unlock in creative mode. Part prices were rebalanced.

New building blocks

Tech tree overhaul with about thirty missing entries. Decorative wooden panels. XR - Thrust 2010, a large two-stroke. Clutch that slips at low RPM so launches do not bog. TCS Block with 0–100% traction control. Chain placement UI warns when sprockets are off-plane. Destructible cans. Named free-drive spawns. Ghosts restored on RT, volcano, supersonic, and stunt, plus a re-driven Combustion King ghost. Driver’s license shows DLC badges. Minimap sprites for Content Creator and Prototype islands.

Fixes worth knowing

AC1 electric engines now have sound. AC suspension gained axle power holes. Neutral-gear calculation and the free-gear false mesh bug are fixed. Car analysis gained a rigidbody tab for loose parts. Custom maps no longer spawn under the world. Personal-best checkpoint deltas record correctly. Xbox button sprites and several settings-menu pad bugs are fixed.

Two small patches — v0.5.5.19 (Nov 6, 2025)

A pair of small patches focused on chain bug fixes and multiplayer stability.

  • Fixed chain bugs. Cars no longer get errors or floating chains. Chain calculations no longer randomly stop.
  • Server browser stability. The server browser used to crash frequently; now it restarts automatically when it does.
  • Lobby lag fix. The multiplayer lobby was lagging significantly during peak use, which has been addressed.
  • Settings now apply. A bug was preventing general settings from being applied until the user toggled them multiple times.
  • Automatic garage calculations. Vehicles in the garage now automatically calculate their physics, as long as the option is enabled in settings.
  • Quantum Queen time fix. The Quantum Queen race was previously way too difficult; the timing has been tuned.
  • Copy/paste for part properties. You can now copy suspension settings from one part to another or copy stepper motor configurations.
  • Minimap added to Pulo Pangripta. A temporary minimap helps navigate the new island.
  • Multiplayer race start lag has been reduced.

Major update — Multiplayer, Gears, Chains, New Maps (Oct 30, 2025)

The largest content update during Early Access. This update added multiplayer return, gears, chains, two new islands, character editor, drivers license, new suspensions, and new wheels.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer finally returned with full Steam integration. The system supports both casual friend sessions and persistent community servers. Server files are included with the game so players can host their own.

New building parts

  • Two new gears with round center holes
  • Two new gear holders (standard and dynamic versions)
  • The gear holder dynamic — a sliding shifter that selects between two gears
  • Chains — flexible power transmission between gears
  • Three new offroad suspensions
  • Three new racing suspensions
  • Configurable suspension settings (spring strength, damper strength, progressiveness)
  • Four new wheels: Oldie Wheel, Racer Wheel, Buggy Wheel, Dirt Wheel 4

New maps

  • Offroad Island — large map with gravel roads, steep hills, and rugged terrain
  • Pulo Pangripta — paved racing map with smooth corners and well-designed sprints

Character editor

The character editor was finally added. Players can customize their monarch avatar from the garage profile. Three different building platform skins are also available.

Drivers license

A new XP and progression system was added. Players earn XP through building and driving, level up their driver’s license, and unlock cosmetic rewards. The license displays stats like total XP, distance driven, vehicles built, and races won.

Security update — Unity vulnerability (Oct 6, 2025)

A security patch addressing a Unity vulnerability identified by Unity Technologies. The patch protects players from potential exploits even though no known impacts were observed. Players were urged to update to the latest version.

July update — minor changes (Jul 30, 2025)

A series of smaller updates that were bundled into a single v0.5.4.25 release.
