The Combustion King is the second Monarch in Screw Drivers and the first real difficulty spike. Unlike the Prince of Gears, this boss runs combustion engines and raw speed. Your trusty Electrix-180 will not be enough — you need to upgrade to combustion power and learn proper gear tuning.

Understanding the Combustion King

The King’s vehicle is built around combustion engines, which produce more power than electric motors at higher tiers. His car is fast on straights and maintains speed through sweeping corners. He does not take shortcuts, but his raw pace means you cannot rely on cross-country cuts alone to win.

This fight teaches you that power without control is useless. You need a vehicle that is both fast and stable at high speeds. A poorly tuned combustion build will spin out or flip before you reach the first checkpoint.

Switch to a combustion engine now. The IgnCore-125 or similar mid-tier combustion motor gives you the power needed to match the King’s speed. Combustion engines are heavier than electric motors, so you need to compensate with a lighter chassis or fewer accessories.

Gear tuning becomes critical here. A simple 1:1 ratio no longer cuts it. Use a small gear driving a large gear near the motor for torque multiplication, then a large gear driving a small gear near the wheels for speed. This two-stage setup gives you strong acceleration out of corners and high top speed on straights.

Rubber wheels remain a solid choice. The King’s track is still mostly paved, and rubber grip is reliable. If you have unlocked racing wheels, they offer less rolling resistance at the cost of grip — only use them if your driving is precise.

Weight reduction is essential. Remove any parts that do not contribute to performance. A lighter car with one combustion engine will outrun a heavier car with two engines because acceleration depends on the power-to-weight ratio.

Driving strategy

Speed is the theme of this race. You need to carry momentum through corners instead of braking hard. Lift the throttle entering turns, let the car rotate naturally, and accelerate out as soon as your wheels align with the exit.

Drifting is more important here than against the Prince. The Combustion King’s track has faster corners that reward controlled slides. Practice drifting in free run before attempting the race — a botched drift costs more time than a clean slow turn.

Checkpoints remain the only finish requirement. The King drives the main road, so any terrain shortcuts you can find will help close the gap. However, his speed means small shortcuts are not enough — you also need clean driving on the road sections.

Watch your vehicle at high speeds. Combustion engines produce enough torque to flip lightweight cars if the suspension is too stiff or the center of gravity is too high. Lower your chassis if possible and soften the rear suspension to prevent wheelies.

Common mistakes

Sticking with electric motors is the number one mistake. Players who beat the Prince with the Electrix-180 sometimes assume it will work for the King. It will not. Combustion engines are a tier above, and the King’s speed demands that upgrade.

Overgearing is another trap. Adding too many gears creates friction losses and makes the drivetrain heavy. Two or three well-chosen gears beat five mediocre ones. Test your build in free run and check your top speed and acceleration before racing.

Neglecting suspension tuning at high speed causes crashes. If your car bounces or bottoms out at top speed, soften the suspension and lower the ride height. Stability at speed is more important than cornering stiffness for this race.
